Lai Cao – Luc Yen – Hanoi

Started quite early in the morning and headed to Luc Yen, famous for colourfull gems like rubies, sapphires, and spinells in snow-white marble. Unfortunatelly, they are manufactured into kitsch sculptures and stuff – raw material rarely to be found. Nice to see all the gems anyway.

Lao Cai

Weather didn’t get better, so we decided to drive to Lao Cai, where we arrived around lunch time. Had a walk around and a very nice fruit-lunch in the park (view to China).

Today the weather turned out to be rather wet, but we didn’t care at all, because we planned to have a more closer look at the drill cores anyway. Very interesting and revealing. After we finished that, we had quick lunch at a local ..errrr.. restaurant and drove to Sa Pa, which seems to be a giant construction site.  Not so nice on the first sight.

First day of field work

After we went to not less than three authorities to get official permissions, we finally went to the field, where we had a hard, but spectacular day.
